What is a passion project?
This is a project that speaks to something you are passionate about, something that interests you, something you want to work on with the intention of being better. For our class, your passion project will be executed through a digital, storytelling medium. How long will you have? Until the end of the quarter. In reality, you will have until TEN DAYS before the end of the quarter. There will be periodic check-ins for project management along the way, but the final critique serves as your quarter final. What is your intention? Is there a story you want to tell that’s important for people to hear? (example: what is it like to be biracial at Cleveland High School?) Is there a medium you really want to practice? (example: getting better at studio portraits or street photography) Is this the right medium for my story? (example: creating a podcast about the best slice of pizza in Portland rather than a video documentary). Teams or individuals? You certainly may work in teams. The project must warrant a team, and most projects do that are detailed and meaningful. Your team is not limited to students in the digital media class, but you are responsible as the director/producer to obtain permission forms for all of your crew. How will you be evaluated?
Examples? Yes! There are plenty of examples from past DM students. There are links from the “passion project” page, and there are examples on each student’s site from the year they were in the class. |
